Shortening of Waiting Period Before Marriage

This form is used to apply for authorisation of a celebrant to solemnise a marriage despite the notice of intended marriage having been lodged less than 1 month before the date of marriage. One or more of the following circumstances must apply:

    • Employment related or other travel commitments, eg the bride or groom is being posted overseas for at least 3 months
    • Non-refundable wedding arrangements of a considerable sum have been made
    • Medical reasons, eg the bride, groom or a close relative has an illness that will prevent them from attending the wedding unless it is held within a month
    • Legal proceedings, eg the bride or groom is subject to pending court proceedings and is at risk of imprisonment
    • Error in giving notice, eg the bride and groom have made arrangements with a celebrant, but written notice was not given in the required time because the celebrant failed to explain the notice requirements properly.

Idenitification and various other documents supporting the application are required.
