A civil partnership is a legally recognised relationship that is created when the Registrar-General registers a formal declaration made by two people. A decision to enter a civil partnership is a serious commitment that has a number of consequences under ACT law. A civil partnership is a particular type of domestic partnership. Domestic partnerships are treated in particular ways under ACT law. In entering a civil partnership you will be automatically regarded as being in a domestic partnership for the purposes of ACT law.
