Under the Nature Conservation Act 1980 , project approval and an appropriate licence is required before conducting activities involving native animals or plants in the ACT, such as taking or killing native animals, or picking native plants. Licences are issued for scientific and educational purposes only.
For activities involving field work you must discuss your proposal with the manager/s of the areas in which you intend to work and then complete a Project Approval Form. The form must be signed by the District Reserve Manager of the area where the project is proposed to be undertaken. The Project Approval Form DOES NOT constitute a licence under the Nature Conservation Act 1980. You must submit a fully completed and signed Project Approval Form with each application for a scientific licence.
Generally, licences are issued for a maximum of 12 months to expire on 30 June each year. You cannot continue with a project if you do not hold a current licence.
