The Indigenous Sport Program evolved from the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody, which emphasised the importance of access to sport and recreation as an aid to discouraging anti-social and criminal behaviours as well as developing and sustaining community cohesiveness.
The program works in partnership with state sporting organisations to ensure that sporting programs are developed to suit the needs of Indigenous people and families in ACT and surrounding areas and encourages active participation and skill development of Indigenous people in sport.
Applications may be submitted by individuals or teams.
