Where you (a person or a corporation), intend to commence trading within the Australian Capital Territory under a name which is not your personal name or your corporation name, you are required to register that business name.
Registration of business names provides a public record of particulars of persons who carry on business in the ACT using a business name. Registration does not protect or confer proprietary rights to a name.
Note: Business Name Registrations will be moving to national registrations on 28 May 2012, business names registered in the ACT will automatically be registered under the national system.
