The ACT Government grants and manages two broad types of leases, nominal rent leases and rental leases. Nominal rent leases are granted upon payment of a premium typically for 99 years, and include rental of 5 cents per annum, as and when demanded.
Most leases are nominal rent leases. Other leases are granted with the requirement to pay land rent usually on a quarterly basis. These leases are typically for community or rural purposes and are usually with a rental reappraisal every 3 years for terms of less than 99 years. Land Rent is separate from Land Tax and Land Rates.
