Long service leave is additional leave given to an employee who has worked in the same industry for 10 or more years. In the ACT the Long Service Leave scheme is administered by the ACT Long Service Leave Board (the Board). The Board records employees' service with each employer and collects a levy from the employer. The Board invests these levies and uses accumulated finds to pay the employee 3 months Long Service Leave when they have accumulated 10 years of service.
Employees in the Building and Construction or Cleaning industries may request an estimate of their long service leave entitlements at any time. The information will be sent to the employee via email.
Inquiries may not be made on behalf of another person. A log of each inquiry is kept and details of all inquiries are shown on the employees next annual certificate.
